K+ and Na+ fluxes in roots of two Chinese Iris populations

摘要: Maintenance of ion homeostasis, particularly the regulation of K and Na uptake, is important for all plants to adapt to salinity. Observations on ionic response to salinity and net fluxes of K , Na in the root exhibited by plants during salt stress have highlighted the need for further investigation. The objectives of this study were to compare salt adaptation of two Chinese Iris ( Pall. var. (Fisch.) Koidz.) populations, and to improve understanding of adaptation to salinity exhibited by plants. Plants used in this study were grown from seeds collected in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (Xj) and Beijing Municipality (Bj), China. Hydroponically-grown seedlings of the two populations were supplied with nutrient solutions containing 0.1 (control) and 140 mmol·L NaCl. After 12 days, plants were harvested for determination of relative growth rate and K , Na concentrations. Net fluxes of K , Na from the apex and along the root axis to 10.8 mm were measured using non-invasive micro-test technique. With 140 mmol·L NaCl treatment, shoots for population Xj had larger relative growth rate and higher K concentration than shoots for population Bj. However, the Na concentrations in both shoots and roots were lower for Xj than those for Bj. There was a lower net efflux of K found in population Xj than by Bj in the mature zone (approximately 2.4-10.8 mm from root tip). However, no difference in the efflux of Na between the populations was obtained. Population Xj of continued to grow normally under NaCl stress, and maintained a higher K /Na ratio in the shoots. These traits, which were associated with lower K leakage, help population Xj adapt to saline environments.

Update on Mayer–Rokitansky–Küster–Hauser syndrome

摘要: This review presents an update of Mayer–Rokitansky–Küster–Hauser (MRKH) syndrome on its etiologic, clinical, diagnostic, psychological, therapeutic, and reproductive aspects. The etiology of MRKH syndrome remains unclear due to its intrinsic heterogeneity. Nongenetic and genetic causes that may interact during the embryonic development have been proposed with no definitive etiopathogenesis identified. The proportion of concomitant extragenital malformations varies in different studies, and the discrepancies may be explained by ethnic differences. In addition to physical examination and pelvic ultrasound, the performance of pelvic magnetic resonance imaging is crucial in detecting the presence of rudimentary uterine endometrium. MRKH syndrome has long-lasting psychological effects on patients, resulting in low esteem, poor coping strategies, depression, and anxiety symptoms. Providing psychological counseling and peer support to diagnosed patients is recommended. Proper and timely psychological intervention could significantly improve a patient’s outcome. Various nonsurgical and surgical methods have been suggested for treatment of MRKH syndrome. Due to the high success rate and minimal risk of complications, vaginal dilation has been proven to be the first-line therapy. Vaginoplasty is the second-line option for patients experiencing dilation failure. Uterine transplantation and gestational surrogacy are options for women with MRKH syndrome to achieve biological motherhood.

Experimental study on heat transfer characteristics of supercritical carbon dioxide in horizontal tube

摘要: The heat transfer characteristics of supercritical carbon dioxide in a horizontal tube with water in the vertical cross flow form were experimentally investigated. The results indicate that the changes of inlet pressure, mass flow rate, and cooling water flow rate have major effects on heat transfer performance. The variations of Reynolds number and Prandtl number were obtained in counter flow and vertical cross flow. The four conventional correlations for convection heat transfer of supercritical carbon dioxide were verified by the experimental data in this study and the correlation agree with this experimental condition was determined.

Stochastic analysis of laminated composite plate considering stochastic homogenization problem

摘要: This paper discusses a multiscale stochastic analysis of a laminated composite plate consisting of unidirectional fiber reinforced composite laminae. In particular, influence of a microscopic random variation of the elastic properties of component materials on mechanical properties of the laminated plate is investigated. Laminated composites are widely used in civil engineering, and therefore multiscale stochastic analysis of laminated composites should be performed for reliability evaluation of a composite civil structure. This study deals with the stochastic response of a laminated composite plate against the microscopic random variation in addition to a random variation of fiber orientation in each lamina, and stochastic properties of the mechanical responses of the laminated plate is investigated. Halpin-Tsai formula and the homogenization theory-based finite element analysis are employed for estimation of effective elastic properties of lamina, and the classical laminate theory is employed for analysis of a laminated plate. The Monte-Carlo simulation and the first-order second moment method with sensitivity analysis are employed for the stochastic analysis. From the numerical results, importance of the multiscale stochastic analysis for reliability evaluation of a laminated composite structure and applicability of the sensitivity-based approach are discussed.

Shape control of multi-cellular inflatable panels

Multi-cellular inflatable structures are ultra-light and robust against membrane damage such as pinholes caused by space debris. Due to their robustness, inflatable structures supported by inner gases can be applied as space structures. In the present study, shape control for a simple multi-cellular inflatable panel was achieved via a novel diaphragm mechanism. When the bending actuator in a center membrane bends, the inner pressures of sub-cells become different, and the diaphragm mechanism bends as a whole. Because a sliding component is not included, this deformable system is a reliable mechanism. In addition, the proposed mechanism has higher rigidity than that of a bending actuator used alone. In the present paper, we investigate the feasibility of a novel diaphragm mechanism and its characteristics using experimental and numerical results.

Synthesis of zeolite Na-P1 from coal fly ash produced by gasification and its application as adsorbent

摘要: The coal fly ash produced by gasification is estimated to be over 80 million ton per year in China by 2021. It has mainly been disposed as solid waste by landfill. There is lack of study focused on its utilization. In this paper, the coal fly ash produced by gasification was at first analyzed and then applied to synthesize zeolite as an adsorbent. The effects of synthesis conditions on the cation exchange capacity (CEC) of zeolite were investigated. The results from X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope indicated that the crystallinity of the synthesized zeolite is the most important factor to affect the CEC. When the synthesized zeolite with the highest CEC (275.5 meq/100 g) was used for the adsorption of Cr(VI) from aqueous solution, the maximum adsorption capacity for Cr(VI) was found to be 17.924 mg/g. The effects of pH, contact time and initial concentration on the adsorption of Cr(VI) were also investigated. The adsorption kinetics and isotherms can be well described by the pseudo-second-order model and Langmuir isotherm model, respectively.

A multi-attribute decision making approach of mix design based on experimental soil characterization

The clay mineral composition is one of the major factors that governs the physical properties of silty sand subgrade. Therefore, a thorough knowledge of mineral composition is essential to predict the optimum engineering properties of the soil, which is generally characterized by different indices like maximum dry density (MDD), California bearing ratio (CBR), unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and free swelling index (FSI). In this article, a novel multi-attribute decision making (MADM) based approach of mix design has been proposed for silty sand – artificial clay mix to improve the characteristic strength of a soil subgrade. Experimental investigation has been carried out in this study to illustrate the proposed approach of selecting appropriate proportion for the soil mix to optimize all the above mentioned engineering properties simultaneously. The results show that a mix proportion containing approximately 90% silty sand plus 10% bentonite soil is the optimal combination in context to the present study. The proposed methodology for optimal decision making to choose appropriate combination of bentonite and silty sand is general in nature and therefore, it can be extended to other problems of selecting mineral compositions.

K型钢管混凝土节点疲劳性能试验研究

摘要:

以湘潭四大桥桁架拱为工程背景,进行了三种规格的K型钢管混凝土节点的疲劳试验,基于热点应力计算了K型钢管混凝土节点的疲劳荷载幅值,表明热点应力法能够较好地评估钢管混凝土节点的疲劳寿命;试验表明K型钢管混凝土节点的疲劳性能明显优于K型钢管节点。在此基础上初步提出了K型钢管混凝土节点的S—N曲线,对建立K型钢管混凝土节点疲劳寿命设计准则具有一定的参考意义。

Performance and synergistic effect of phenolic and thio antioxidants in ABS graft copolymers

摘要: The synergistic effect of phenolic and thio antioxidants on the stabilization of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) graft copolymers has been studied. Three commercial antioxidants Irganox245, Irganox1076 and dilauryl thiodipropionate (DLTP) were selected. Formulations based on hindered phenols and secondary antioxidant DLTP were prepared. Stabilization was monitored in terms of changes in the functional groups (oxidation products), tensile properties and yellowness index. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TG) were also used to assess the stability. The results indicated that the combination of Irganox245 and DLTP showed much better stabilization effect than the individual components due to the strong synergistic effect. Only weak synergism could be observed in the formulation that contained Irganox1076 and DLTP. Irganox1076 and Irgnox1076/DLTP exhibited similar behaviors between antioxidants with the highest and lowest efficiencies.

Modified landfill gas generation rate model of first-order kinetics and two-stage reaction

摘要: This investigation was carried out to establish a new domestic landfill gas (LFG) generation rate model that takes into account the impact of leachate recirculation. The first-order kinetics and two-stage reaction (FKTSR) model of the LFG generation rate includes mechanisms of the nutrient balance for biochemical reaction in two main stages. In this study, the FKTSR model was modified by the introduction of the outflow function and the organic acid conversion coefficient in order to represent the in-situ condition of nutrient loss through leachate. Laboratory experiments were carried out to simulate the impact of leachate recirculation and verify the modified FKTSR model. The model calibration was then calculated by using the experimental data. The results suggested that the new model was in line with the experimental data. The main parameters of the modified FKTSR model, including the LFG production potential (), the reaction rate constant in the first stage (), and the reaction rate constant in the second stage () of 64.746 L, 0.202 d, and 0.338 d, respectively, were comparable to the old ones of 42.069 L, 0.231 d, and 0.231 d. The new model is better able to explain the mechanisms involved in LFG generation.

Evaluation of the k-nearest neighbor method for forecasting the influent characteristics of wastewater

摘要: The k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) method was evaluated to predict the influent flow rate and four water qualities, namely chemical oxygen demand (COD), suspended solid (SS), total nitrogen (T-N) and total phosphorus (T-P) at a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The search range and approach for determining the number of nearest neighbors (NNs) under dry and wet weather conditions were initially optimized based on the root mean square error (RMSE). The optimum search range for considering data size was one year. The square root-based (SR) approach was superior to the distance factor-based (DF) approach in determining the appropriate number of NNs. However, the results for both approaches varied slightly depending on the water quality and the weather conditions. The influent flow rate was accurately predicted within one standard deviation of measured values. Influent water qualities were well predicted with the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) under both wet and dry weather conditions. For the seven-day prediction, the difference in predictive accuracy was less than 5% in dry weather conditions and slightly worse in wet weather conditions. Overall, the k-NN method was verified to be useful for predicting WWTP influent characteristics.

Promoting effect of Zr on the catalytic combustion of methane over Pd/γ-Al

摘要: The effect of Zr on the catalytic performance of Pd/γ-Al O for the methane combustion was investigated. The results show that the addition of Zr can improve the activity and stability of Pd/γ-Al O catalyst, which, based on the catalyst characterization (N adsorption, XRD, CO-Chemisorption, XPS, CH -TPR and O -TPO), is ascribed to the interaction between Pd and Zr. The active phase of methane combustion over supported palladium catalyst is the Pd /Pd mixture. Zr addition inhibits Pd aggregation and enhances the redox properties of active phase Pd / Pd . H reduction could effectively reduce the oxidation degree of Pd species and regenerate the active sites (Pd / Pd ).
